The Animal Agriculture program was developed to add a more self-reliant, sustaining food source for area families. Meals normally consist of grain and corn, but when growing seasons are stricken with drought or flooding the yield doesn’t supply the need. Adding a goat or chickens to the family plot dramatically increases survivability of these devastating weather patterns. The goats are mostly used for their milk and are normally given in pairs so families may also benefit from their young. Chickens breed fast and can support a family with eggs and young very quickly. Animal offspring can generate extra funds to help pay school fees and help the family expand their farming activities.
